Co-creating Digital Sovereignty

Sovereignty package for an effective and resilient state

ZenDiS will be presenting its complete sovereignty package for the first time at the "Digital State" congress. This includes the existing "Platform" and "Products" business areas as well as the new "Consulting" area and the sovereignty check.

Bochum/Berlin, March 12, 2025 - ZenDiS will be presenting its complete sovereignty package for an effective and resilient state for the first time at the "Digital State" congress trade fair (March 18-19 in Berlin) (stand 11+20). This includes the existing business areas "Platform" and "Products" as well as the new area "Consulting" and the Sovereignty Check. With the new business unit, ZenDiS is addressing the great need for support within the administration on the way to sovereign IT. The focus of the offering is on the topics of digital sovereignty and open source (procurement, operation, subsequent use, business models, legal security) with services relating to the analysis of dependencies as well as the development of exit and migration strategies and change management.

Sovereignty check identifies critical dependencies

The sovereignty check is also new. It makes IT solutions (applications, infrastructure, cloud, AI) verifiable according to objective criteria with regard to their degree of sovereignty. The check looks at the solutions as well as providers, licenses and contracts. The sovereignty check provides authorities and institutions with information on critical dependencies and important starting points for exit strategies. Used as part of procurement processes, the sovereignty check effectively prevents public funds from flowing into solutions that cement existing dependencies or create new ones, for example in the case of AI. The results from the sovereignty checks can be combined to create a picture of the current state of digital sovereignty and make changes measurable via a sovereignty index. An initial version should be available by the end of June.

New openCode badge program makes software quality transparent

High quality and security of software are crucial for the sovereign digitization of administration. A new service on the openCode platform now makes an automated evaluation of these properties possible and transparent via digital seals - "badges". In this way, openCode makes it easier for authorities to select suitable solutions and strengthens the reuse of existing software. In the first expansion stage, software is evaluated in terms of licensing, maintenance and subsequent use, followed by an automatic security check. With openCode, ZenDiS provides the administration with a basis for a secure and sovereign software supply chain. More than 5,500 users are already collaborating on software, framework architectures and standards in over 2,400 projects across the federal government. The Office & Collaboration Suite openDesk is also being developed on openCode. The legally compliant provision of software, the increase in subsequent use and the avoidance of inefficient duplicate developments are key objectives of openCode.

Great demand for openDesk and new integration options

Almost five months after the launch of openDesk, demand for the open source-based Office & Collaboration Suite continues unabated. More than 1,500 inquiries have already been received from authorities and institutions throughout Germany, and the number of active enterprise licenses is around 70,000. openDesk is a superior alternative to proprietary workplace solutions. The suite can be operated on-premise in your own data center or obtained as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) from a sovereign cloud. At the ZenDiS stand, interested parties can experience openCode and openDesk live and have a test access to openDesk set up on site. ZenDiS will also be giving a preview of version 1.2 of the Office & Collaboration Suite, which allows connection to existing Active Directories and therefore simpler integration into the existing IT landscape.
